Stop Comparing

Stop comparing me to her - Her to her or one to another

This is one cycle that needs to stop so we can recover

What has been lost between the lines on our Twitter feed

What’s she wearing? Who’s he dating? Until your heart bleeds

For someone to see what’s really inside, the joy you express and the insecurities you hide.

‘cause what is important, it isn’t posted online, Not on your Facebook where life looks by design.

Insta Photos of happiness and beauty align

To a life more glamorous than the one you were actually assigned.

See, reality is blurred by the filters of illusion

Indicating a life without heartache, trial and what makes us human.

What good is that, when all anyone sees

Is a heart of experiences hidden by staged scenes.

Drawn with perfect manikins with a perfect backdrop

The bold, the bad, and the ugly have been cropped

Out of the life that is much more interesting with our imperfections

But we obscure those, hide those, and that’s where our disconnection

 Begins.

So, log off. Turn off and open your eyes.

There is a bigger world than what is inside / Your phone

 Only leads you to compare,

What others hand-select, so buyer beware.

Not is all as it seems through our social lens

What we choose to post and un-tag only continues this trend.

To a life that biases the nipped and tucked

Edits to our lives that keep us stuck

From understanding that there is beauty in blemish.

and a life directed by ego nothing but selfish

Its time we wake up to our world, its people and within

And see through love and care, not just skin

Deep. In our souls, we’ve always craved to unite, love one another and rewrite

The story we have been telling

Cuz guys that was the wrong one to be selling.

Our story will set a new example understanding one another

And not living for the likes on our Facebook cover

Because all are a part of a bigger tapestry

Our threads intertwined and stories lived without a delete key

So let’s set ourselves free

And help live the legacy that can be the real you and me.

Let's quiet the judgement and our social media distractions

And live a life, more real, a life unfiltered,

a life that’s ok with imperfection.
